Report: Illinois Ranks Third in Chinese Investments

Illinois ranks third in Chinese institutional investment, according to a recent report by property consultancy Cushman & Wakefield. Chinese investors made $362 million in investments in Illinois from 2008 through June 2014. The Wall Street Journal reports over the past two years, more Chinese investors have sought to invest in offices and hotels in inland cities such as Chicago as a way to distribute their U.S. investments. The consultancy compiled a list of the top 10 U.S. states for Chinese investment. New York ($6.7 billion) and California ($1.6 billion) ranked first and second. Chicago’s lure to international investors drives the success of C.A.R.’s Global Real Estate & Emerging Markets Forum.
