In 2015, all Chicago properties will be reassessed for property tax purposes.
The Chicago Association of REALTORS® encourages its members to advise clients to appeal.
When assisting a client with the buying or the selling of a property, knowing how the property tax system works can be a critical service to a client. Given the forecast that indicates the city’s tax rate may rise, making sure a property is valued correctly for tax purposes is crucial.
Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios spoke at the
February CommercialForum Networking Breakfast where he emphasized the importance of the appeals process. Property owners have only 30 days to
file an appeal once they receive their assessment, and an appeal can lead to reduction of tax liability and significant savings.
