Why It May Be Harder to Reach Younger Clients

Honing your digital reach may be more than important than ever. Younger homebuyers in a new survey say they prefer to get their information from other sources rather than work with practitioners. Neoscape, an East Coast branded-content creator for the real estate industry, commissioned the survey to learn more about how homebuyers at every age and income level view the sales process. Fifty-one percent of 25 to 34 year olds say they don’t want to work with a real estate broker when buying a home, preferring instead to seek information from marketing materials, renderings and websites. For the 55-year-old set, 62 percent of those surveyed prefer to work with a broker. Marketers need to look more closely at how they sell property, especially to younger clients who are increasingly less willing to take the time to meet with a broker, the survey found. Other findings include: • 55 percent of those under 34 years old find a mobile app more influential than a broker. • 14 percent of people over 55 use mobile apps. • Nearly a quarter of people who make more than $100,000 use mobile apps. • 94 percent of those who make more than $100,000 say they use property websites to gather data when deciding to purchase a new home. • 60 percent say they think with their head over their heart – and of those, nearly half of them (46 percent) earn less than $50,000.
