Each year, the association honors a Rookie of the Year who has closed the top residential units and volume for 5 regions of the city (South, North, Central, West, and Outside). Starting in 2021, the criteria for Rookie of the Year has changed.
Rookie of the Year Criteria
Any new member to the association who has also received their real estate license number no earlier than 60 days before joining the association shall become eligible for a Rookie of the Year Sales Award the first full calendar year following their join date with the association.
For example:
- A member joining the association between January 1, 2021 – December 31, 2021 would be eligible for the 2022 Rookie of the Year Sales Award, recognized in the Spring of 2023.
- A member joining the association between January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022 would be eligible for the 2023 Rookie of the Year Sales Award, recognized in the Spring of 2024.
- A member joining the association between January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023 would be eligible for the 2024 Rookie of the Year Sales Award, recognized in the Spring of 2025.
- Any member who has previously earned a Rookie of the Year Sales Award is not eligible to earn another Rookie of the Year Sales Award under this new criteria.
Rationale
Our old Rookie of the Year criteria stated that the member must have joined the association and received their license within the same year as the Sales Awards recognition program (i.e. a member joining CAR who received their license in the calendar year 2021 would only be eligible for 2021 Rookie of the Year, regardless of the month they joined). This policy disproportionately benefitted members that joined at the beginning of a calendar year: a member who joined in January had 11 months to close transactions, whereas a member who joined in November had 1 month.
By moving the criteria to the member’s first full calendar year, it allows for a consistent period of time measured for all eligible new members.
