2020 Election: Our Government Directors’ Hot Takes

blog

Our GADs took to Facebook Live on Thursday, November 5 to discuss the outcome of the Chicago and Illinois elections, including information on the federal election, the Fair Tax amendment and more. The Presidential election had not been called at that time. Here’s what you need to know:

Federal Races

Marie Newman took the seat for Illinois’s third congressional district, beating Representative Dan Lipinski. This provides a new opportunity for REALTORS to share the interest of the industry with Representative Newman.

Our GADs also discussed the Congressional races between Lauren Underwood and Jim Oberweis, which had yet to be called, and the race between Sean Casten and Jeanne Ives, which went to Sean Casten.

Fair Tax Amendment Vote

The Fair Tax Amendment did not pass during the election. Our GADs suggested that this amendment needs reform before it has a chance to pass. Our GADs anticipate that there will be cuts across the board to raise the income tax from 4.95% to 6% for everyone.
