New Program Connects Homeless with Vacant Units, Rental Assistance

Chicago Rents, a new program by All Chicago, connects families who need homes with landlords who have vacancies. Households will receive rental assistance and case management for 12 months. Tenants pay a portion of their income to All Chicago, who pays 100% of the rental amount to landlords if the tenant cannot pay.

Landlords who participate in the program will receive:

  • Support from All Chicago to resolve any issue that may arise.
  • Guaranteed, timely rent payments and security deposits.
  • Holding fees, a flat fee based on unit rent, to ensure units are available for our weekly housing events.
  • Support by the Landlord Risk Mitigation Fund, which can mitigate landlord monetary losses not covered by the security deposit, such as extreme unit damage.

Additionally, landlords will not need to advertise unit vacancies, saving on advertising costs.

Tenants will work with a case manager to identify a long-term housing plan, which may include enhancing income to take on the full rental amount, moving into a longer-term subsidy, or identifying other possibilities. The case manager also connects the tenant with needed resources and support within the community, including employment assistance, income supports, childcare, healthcare, and others.
