New education initiative on Chicago property taxes with Real Property Alliance

C.A.R. is partnering with Real Property Alliance, Illinois REALTORS® consumer outreach arm, to help educate property owners in Chicago about why property taxes are increasing and how they can potentially lower their tax burden in the future. This is an important issue, as Chicago residents have been hit with an average 12 percent increase on their property tax bills due to a scheduled reassessment and a separate increase in the tax levy, which was passed primarily to pay for public safety pensions. Real Property Alliance has created a website with information for REALTORS® and consumers, including questions to ask when the tax bill arrives, quick links to exemption information and filing deadlines, and information on how to file an appeal.
