At Home With Diversity – Training Everyone Needs

When staying abreast of legislation which safeguards our industry and human rights, it’s important to ask yourself what you’re doing to hold yourself to the highest professional standard. That’s where At Home with Diversity (AHWD) training comes in. AHWD provides participants with tools to build diversity outreach into their business. The mission? To best serve our dynamic and growing markets as well as improve our ability to serve culturally diverse consumers. “Most people don’t realize what not knowing can do to harm your business. We’re all practicing international real estate, and we may not advertise it that way, but we are,” Terry Watson, the instructor, said. At Home with Diversity was founded by the National Association of REALTORS® and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a certification program for real estate professionals who have made a commitment to diversity principles. “When you take this training, we’ll discuss common mistakes you don’t realize you’re making. We’ll also talk about resources you’ll wish you would’ve known about years ago. Like the CIA World Fact Book or usa.gov. These are right there, for free, and they’ll tell you more than you realize about the cultures of your clients,” Watson said.

How to Get the Certification

  1. Take the AHWD course and pass the final exam.
  2. Be an active NAR member in good standing.
  3. Submit the AHWD certification application form and $75 fee to NAR.

“I plan on having students walk out knowing more than 99% of REALTORS® out there. They’re going to get idea after idea and use it right away,” Watson said. This January, we’re hosting the At Home with Diversity certification for the first time. We encourage all our members to complete this training and continue to make positive strides in the real estate industry.
