Dos & Don’ts: Sentrilock Lockbox Access

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the switch for many to virtual business, we’ve received quite a few questions about Sentrilock lockboxes. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

My listing has a Sentrilock lockbox. Who can I give access to?

One day codes for Sentrilock lockboxes may only be given to the following in conjunction with the official business of a prospective real estate transaction, and with the seller’s permission in writing:
  • Agents
  • Brokers
  • Appraisers
  • Inspectors
  • Contractors
Keep in mind: you may only give out one day codes. You should never give out Smart Card or mobile app codes. Lockbox violations will subject you with up to a $2,500 fine per occurrence!

But what if the seller knows the inspector is coming and hasn’t responded to my email or text?

You may not issue a one day code for anyone without the seller’s written permission.

What if my seller gives written permission for the buyer to access the lockbox on their own, without their agent or broker?

No. This is a lockbox violation subject to a $2,500 fine per occurrence.

How do I get a Sentrilock lockbox for my listing?
