Two city programs are accepting applications for free or discounted lead pipe replacements. Both programs are available to single-family or two-flat homeowners.
Through the Homeowner-Initiated Program, if a contractor is hired to remove a pipe, the city will waive the permit fee, which can save homeowners up to $3,100. Then, the city will send a crew out to attach a new pipe and a free water meter will be given to the contractor to install.
The Equity Program will let homeowners replace their service line and provide a water meter for free if they live in or own the home where the replacement will take place, have an income below 80% of the area’s median income and have 15 parts per billion of lead in their water (which is tested by the city).
