Illinois REALTORS® released call for action for Ordinance 2498, which seeks to stop tying property tax increases to inflation.
Take one minute out of your day to encourage your alderperson to co-sponsor Alderman Reilly’s Ordinance 2498.
If it passes, this ordinance would stop a property tax increase that is automatically tied to the highest inflation in two generations. The city’s current formula could allow the tax increase to quadruple in 2023 to $85.5 million.
This large increase will hit everyone, including homeowners, renters and businesses at a time when Chicagoans are trying to manage higher grocery and gas prices.
