Volunteer Spotlight: Jeanine McShea, Forms & Contracts Committee Chair

Get to know our members who share their expertise to help shape the future of our association and industry! We chatted with our 2020-2021 Forms & Contracts Committee Chair Jeanine McShea, @properties, to find out more about her career path, why she volunteers and more.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED IN THE INDUSTRY?

3o+ years.

WHY WERE YOU INTERESTED IN GETTING INTO REAL ESTATE?

My first job out of college was not providing me with a level of satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. It was suggested to me that real estate sales might be a perfect fit and it was true. From the first day of licensing to today, this career fit me like a glove.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT IN YOUR CAREER TO DATE?

One achievement of which I am privileged to be a part of is the opportunity to build two companies in various stages of growth. The first was a newer company coming on the scene in the early 2000s and we built it ten-fold. I was the first managing broker they hired. The second firm was a development company that launched a resale division in 2014. Those sales brokers hired in both companies are still some of my closest friends.

WHAT HAS HELPED YOU MOST TO GET WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

The mentors in every firm that I worked for including colleagues, staff and owners/managers. So many were instrumental in making me a better person both personally and professionally.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR CAREER?

The relationships with both clients and my fellow brokers. Also, any chance to give back through teaching or being involved in the association. I receive so much more back than I give. Also, the fact that I get to work with my daughter. We formed “The McShea Group” four years ago, and I enjoy every day working with her.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE OTHERS WHO ARE LOOKING TO TAKE THEIR CAREER TO THE NEXT LEVEL?

Mindfulness and a sense of purpose in every task will take you to the next level. Whether that growth is in self-awareness or in your career, it is paramount to approach every day with a positive attitude and organization. I am still working on this lifelong challenge! My second word of advice is to find a good partner in business. I am so lucky to be able to work with my daughter. Erin McShea is my soulmate, daughter and partner.

WHAT DOES VOLUNTEERING MEAN TO YOU?

Anything I can share in teaching or volunteering gives me so much joy. Every opportunity of volunteering always teaches me a new lesson or new information. Also, I love the chance to collaborate with fellow professionals in the industry. This is why I volunteer!

WHAT HAS BEEN MOST VALUABLE TO YOU/YOUR BUSINESS SINCE YOU GOT INVOLVED IN OUR INDUSTRY?

Surrounding myself with good, positive people. The business is hard and we face rejection and criticism; having an attitude of gratefulness and abundance will get you through life and real estate. The most important conversation you have is the one with yourself at the start of your day. Also, share everything you know with those around you. There are no secrets in real estate, only new friendships and new opportunities.
