The recent immigration enforcement activity and increased presence of federal authorities across Chicago have created uncertainty and fear in many of our neighborhoods.
Racial profiling and the fear that results from it are negatively impacting our communities. As REALTORS®, we stand against it and advocate for communities where everyone feels safe to live, work and invest.
Chicago REALTORS® are critical to creating thriving neighborhoods through the fulfillment of the dream of homeownership and commercial and economic investment. However, this dream cannot be realized when people do not feel safe in their communities.
We’ve been informed that clients are expressing hesitation to move or invest in homeownership in Chicago, and that some businesses are experiencing closures or reduced activity due to fears stemming from racial profiling. There are members and their clients who are afraid for their futures and feel unwanted and unwelcome in our city. Neighborhoods feel unsettled, and the ripple effects touch our entire city. As Chicago REALTORS®, our vision is that all of our communities are vibrant and thriving.
As you continue serving your clients during this time, we’ve compiled a list of resources and guidance to help you navigate potential situations that may arise. These materials are designed to help you stay informed, support your clients and continue conducting your business with professionalism and care.
Thank you for the critical role you play in shaping Chicago’s neighborhoods and for your continued commitment to building vibrant, inclusive communities and protecting private property rights. Together, we will keep working toward a city where everyone feels safe and secure at home.
