Winter 2026: President’s Perspective

Advocacy is a priority in everything I do.

When I first stepped into this business, my goal was simple: to create opportunities for others. Over the years, I’ve seen how REALTORS® can be powerful catalysts for change. We are in the neighborhoods. We see what’s working, as well as what isn’t. And we have the networks, the knowledge and the heart to make things better. But that starts with each of us deciding to be the change we want to see.

For all of us, as REALTORS®, advocacy takes many forms. It’s showing up to City Council meetings. It’s mentoring a young person who never imagined a career in real estate. It’s using our platforms to ensure fair housing and equity are principles we live by. When we engage and speak up, we make the path wider for those coming behind us.

Advocacy is also about listening. The issues facing our industry and our communities are complex, and they affect neighborhoods in different ways. As your president, I’m here to listen, and the association wants to hear from you. Your lived experiences and your day-to-day work give you insights that matter to the Chicago Association of REALTORS®. With over 16,000 members across Chicago, our strength comes from understanding the full picture. Every perspective, every story and every concern. When proposed changes or policies arise, your day-to-day experience in our neighborhoods gives you vital insight that needs to be part of the conversation. When we listen to each other, we make better decisions and build solutions that reflect the needs of the people we serve.

REALTORS® are uniquely positioned to build wealth, bridge divides and drive change. The question is, will we use that position to simply do business? Or will you build a legacy?

I challenge you to find your lane of advocacy. Whether it’s housing policy, education or mentorship, I encourage you to get involved. The future of our communities depends on it.

Because at the end of the day, change starts with us.

Lutalo McGee
2025-2026 President
