On Thursday, September 12, 2019, Chicago Association of REALTORS® treasurer Nykea Pippion McGriff, Dream Town Realty, presented at the Congressional Black Caucus’ Annual Legislative Conference.
Pippion McGriff, who serves as a National Association of REALTORS®-appointed Federal Political Coordinator to U.S. Representative Bobby L. Rush, presented on the Black Money Matters 2: Income, Income, Income panel, hosted by Rush. During her remarks, she discussed the issues impacting communities of color across the nation and how we begin to solve them. She presented options for strengthening underserved communities, like partnering with a local land bank for capital and creating syndicates for neighbors to buy and revitalize distressed properties together.
Pippion McGriff further shared startling statistics of those who responded to a NAR member survey and identified as African-American. Of the respondents, only 2 percent self-identified as commercial practitioners. This means, with 98 percent acting as residential brokers, there is a need for African-Americans to diversify their specialties.
Lastly, Pippion McGriff expounded on the value-add of being an active member of associations like CAR and NAR, which grants her opportunities to learn, network and represent the industry and her clients.
NAR’s FPC program assigns a REALTOR® to every member of Congress. Through this direct, exclusive relationship, REALTORS® get to share the needs and concerns of the home buyers and renters of the districts they represent, and members of Congress get to learn how their policies impact private property rights. We are extremely proud of Nykea Pippion McGriff for her presentation at the CBC’s Annual Legislative Conference and for the strong relationship she continues to build with Rep. Rush to ensure the real estate community’s voice is heard.
