Governor Pritzker Extends Eviction Moratorium Until January 9

blog

Governor Pritzker announced on Friday, December 11 that the eviction moratorium would be extended another month until January 9, 2021. The modifications include specific language regarding a minimum of 5-day notice for eviction actions. Also, the order specifically prohibits an eviction action against “a tenant who does not owe rent” and an exception is offered. However, this means an eviction action against a tenant with an expired lease but current with rent payment may not commence.

As always, consultation with your personal legal counsel is highly recommended.

Last month, the Governor’s extension included new language, similar to the Center for Disease Control Order, that would seek to “balance the rights of tenants and landlords.”

The moratorium and other matters will be discussed at the next Coffee with the GADs event.
