AAPI HOMEOWNERSHIP STATISTICS
Do you know about the current state of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. and Chicago area? Find stats in our Industry Partner AREAA’s State of Asia America Report.
BARRIERS TO AAPI HOMEOWNERSHIP
Credit Files
AAPI families prefer to make their purchases in cash at the time of purchase and avoid debt, resulting in limited credit history.
Language Barriers
While about 70% of AAPI’s are Limited English Proficient (LEP), translation of forms and contracts remains a barrier to clients.
Fair Housing
Heighted discrimination from Covid-19 still remains an issue for AAPI’s seeking to be approved for housing.
Downpayment
Majority of AAPI’s live in high cost areas, resulting in needing more time to save.
#STOPASIANHATE
There are over 3,795 incidents of racism and discrimination targeted towards Asian Americans reported between March 19, 2020 and February 28, 2021.
“Civil rights violations, such as workplace discrimination, refusal of service and being barred from transportation, as well as online and verbal harassment, physical violence all account for many of total incidents. On May 20, 2021, President Biden signed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, which will make the reporting of hate crimes more accessible at the local and state levels and also require the Department of Justice to expedite a review of hate crimes related to Covid-19.” Quote: 2021 State of Asia America Housing Report
At CAR, we boldly stand against Asian Hate! Revisit our statement, with additional resources to continue to be an active ally of the AAPI community!
