About the Loop Revitalization & Reimagined LaSalle Street

  • The City of Chicago’s Loop Revitalization initiative supports mixed-income residential uses and other neighborhood-oriented amenities along the LaSalle Street corridor.
  • On April 3, 2024 (see the announcement here), Mayor Brandon Johnson announced that four adaptive reuse proposals, consisting of more than 1,000 units of mixed-income housing, are being advanced for City financial assistance. Two additional proposals continue to be reviewed.
  • Collectively representing more than $525 million in total investments, the four advancing projects will repurpose 1.3 million square feet of vacant space, including the creation of more than 300 homes that will be affordable to residents earning an average of 60% of the area median income.
  • In addition to support for these adaptive reuse projects, funding from the City’s Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) will help entrepreneurs create cafes, restaurants, stores and other neighborhood-oriented amenities for the Loop’s growing population.
