LGBTQ+ HISTORY & POLICY

Explore an in-depth history of the LGBTQ+ community throughout America from the History Channel, from the timeline of the historic Stonewall Riots, gay culture in the roaring 20s, a gay Revolutionary War hero and more!

Federal, state of Illinois and local Cook County laws state that it is illegal to discriminate against any individual based on gender identity and sexual orientation. If you or your client experience any discrimination, make sure you report it to the Commission of Human Relations. Also, be sure to check out the resources that are available with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

As of January 20, 2021, President Biden issued Executive Order 13988: “Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation,” which expands the discrimination protections previously offered solely on the basis of sex to the categories of gender identity and sexual orientation

LGBTQ+ HOMEOWNERSHIP INFORMATION

The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance released a report regarding homeownership within the LGBTQ+ community. View the complete “Inaugural Housing Policy Symposium Report from the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance” here.

TAKE THE ALLY PLEDGE

Our industry partner, The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance, offers a 2022 Ally Certification Course designed to help you develop a better understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and provide knowledge on how to work with potential homebuyers and sellers who identify as part of the community. Tag us and the Alliance once you’ve registered and show your pride!

The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance’s mission is to advocate for fair housing for all and promote LGBTQ+ homeownership. Their goal is to elevate professionalism in the industry through education and networking, celebrating diversity and inclusion among their members and allied partners.

NAR FAIR HOUSING ASSETS

The National Association of REALTORS® requires its members to adhere to its strict code of ethics which sets a higher standard for fairness in housing than any federal law. For Pride Month, NAR has created a series of social media graphics to promote and celebrate the equal rights of all people. Check them out here.
