As Chicago continues to look for innovative ways to increase housing supply and encourage neighborhood reinvestment, REALTORS® have an opportunity to think beyond traditional transactions and explore new ways to create value for both clients and communities. For some, that opportunity is taking shape through Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).
Join CommercialForum for a conversation with Miguel Chacon, a REALTOR®, investor and neighborhood redevelopment advocate who has completed two ADU projects and is actively developing two more. Drawing from his firsthand experience, Miguel will share how he identifies investment opportunities and evaluates whether a project makes financial sense. He’ll also cover how he navigates the development process and applies the lessons he’s learned to each new project.
Rather than focusing on the technical details of Chicago’s ADU ordinance, this session will examine ADUs through the lens of small-scale development and neighborhood investment. Together, we’ll explore the business decisions behind these projects, from acquisition and financing to construction, leasing and long-term strategy, and discuss where ADUs fit into today’s real estate market
Whether you work with investors, own investment property or are looking to better advise clients exploring development opportunities, you’ll leave with practical insights into the opportunities, challenges and strategic considerations of small-scale development, and how ADUs may fit into your business or your clients’ investment goals.
