Director Qualifications

To ensure the Chicago Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors remains forward-thinking, mission-driven and representative of the highest standards in the real estate profession, the Nominating Committee should consider the following eligibility guidelines to serve as a Director:

Years of Service:
A minimum of three years of active, consistent and demonstrated engagement with the Chicago Association of Realtors® through participation in committees, workgroups, task forces, or advisory groups.

Demonstrated Leadership:
At least one year of service in a leadership role within a Chicago Association of REALTORS® entity, such as a Committee Chair, Vice Chair, Advisory Group Leader or a similar position that shows a clear track record of leadership and results.

Strategic Mindset:
Ability to think strategically and contribute to the long-term vision, sustainability and growth of the organization. Directors should be able to innovate and adapt as part of their obligation to fulfill their fiduciary duties to Chicago Association of REALTORS®.

Commitment to Diversity:
Chicago Association of REALTORS® prides itself on the diversity of its members and inclusive community. The Chicago Association of REALTORS® celebrates individual differences, honors unique perspectives and ensures that there is a seat at the table for everyone. Directors are expected to uphold and promote these values in all their work with the Association. Training Requirement: All volunteer leaders at The Chicago Association of REALTORS® are required to complete DEI training annually.

Good Standing and Industry Engagement:
Directors must be a REALTOR® member in good standing with no current ethics violations or disciplinary actions. Directors should have a proven dedication to professionalism, including active participation in RPAC and/or industry advocacy initiatives.

Time Commitment:
Directors should be willing and able to commit the time required to attend Board meetings, committee assignments, Association events, strategic planning retreats and other leadership functions. Directors are required to attend a minimum of five out of seven Board of Directors meetings annually.

Board Training: All new Directors are required to complete Board Orientation prior to the start of their term. All Directors must complete annual Board training.

Knowledge of the Association and Industry:
Directors should demonstrate familiarity with The Chicago Association of REALTORS® strategic plan, programs, services and governance structure, as well as key industry issues affecting Chicago REALTORS®.

Professional Reputation:
Directors should maintain a credible, ethical and engaged professional presence that upholds and enhances the REALTOR® brand and the Chicago Association of REALTOR® community.

Interview Availability

If you application is considered by the Nominating Committee, an in-person interview will be conducted on Thursday, May 28th, 2026. You may be asked to sign-up for an available time slot on that day. Interviews will be approximately 15-20 minutes and will take place at the Chicago Association of REALTORS® office: 430 N Michigan Ave, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60611.

Other Information

If elected, you must be available to attend the CAR Inaugural Gala to be installed on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
