NAGLREP Explores Housing Discrimination in New LGBT Housing Report

The National Association of Gay & Lesbian Real Estate Professionals (NAGLREP) partnered with Freddie Mac to develop and release its third annual 2019 – 2020 LGBT Real Estate Report. The LGBT homeownership rate is 49 percent, lagging the national average of 65 percent. This year’s report found fear of housing discrimination could play a factor in that statistic. According to Freddie Mac, 46 percent of potential homeowners fear discrimination will occur during the homebuying process, “while only 13 percent report that it actually did occur.” The report further details the ways in which NAGLREP continues to fight against housing discrimination for the LGBT community and influence laws and policies that strengthen these protections. Over half of NAGLREP members are confident sexual orientation and gender identity will be added to the fair housing law within the next two to four years. Check out the full report to learn more about buying trends within the LGBT community, NAGLREP’s work and how you can become an ally. The Chicago Association of REALTORS® is proud to call the NAGLREP Chicago chapter an Industry Partner.
