Mandatory Code of Ethics Training

Ethics & CE? What’s the Difference?

All REALTOR® members are required to complete 2.5 hours of Code of Ethics training per three-year cycle. We are currently in the Seventh Training Cycle, January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2024. Failure to comply with this required ethics training is a violation of a membership duty, for which the member’s primary association will suspend membership until the training is complete.

The only REALTORS® exempt from this requirement are members with REALTOR® Emeritus status. Appraisers or Attorneys must meet this membership requirement and are not exempt.

Continuing education is required by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation to maintain a real estate license. Training registered for CE credit may not qualify for ethics-training credit and vice versa.

Next Ethics Renewal Deadline: December 31, 2024

NOTE: This is a National Association of REALTORS® mandate, NOT a requirement of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation or its Continuing Education course requirement. However, if you take an Ethics CE course, you will meet part of your CE requirement as well as the NAR® membership mandate.
