Governor Pritzker has extended the state eviction moratorium to August 22. The original moratorium began in March and was set to expire at the end of July.

The extended moratorium comes along with new state grant initiatives. On August 10, the Emergency Rental Assistance program will open for applications. This program will provide $150 million in grant money to tenants who have been unable to pay their rent during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Homeowners can apply for the Emergency Mortgage Assistance program starting on August 28. This program will provide $150 million in grant money to assist approximately 10,000 eligible homeowners with grants of up to $15,000.
