Last Thursday, CAR Director and chair of the Illinois REALTORS® Discriminatory Appraisal Task Force Lutalo McGee, Ani Real Estate, took part in a panel with the Chicago Urban League to discuss racial bias in home appraisals and what’s being done about it.
Lutalo was joined on the panel by Karen Freeman-Wilson, President & CEO of the Chicago Urban League, Diane Shelley, Midwest Regional Administrator of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Michael Cabonargi, Commissioner of the Cook County Board of Review, 2nd District, and Courtney Jones, Executive Director of the Black Coalition for Housing.
“We want to educate and empower REALTORS® to be able to, one, work with appraisers and to be able to understand appraisals…and then to identify any issues that may have come as a result of the appraisal being done,” Lutalo said during the panel.
