Through our placemaking efforts, we recently partnered with Uptown United to complete our newest project, a plaza with art and bike infrastructure located at the 4600 block of North Broadway in Uptown.
A vibrant double door mural, called Tree of Life, was created by artist Rodney Duran, a local artist who specializes in murals and canvas and has other work that can be found throughout the Uptown neighborhood. The ground of the plaza was painted by Joe Miller in an explosive dot design to bring brightness to the area, which is covered by the Red and Purple L lines. Both art pieces are designed in a retro, neon ’80s theme.
Infrastructure for biking was added, including a bike rack to accompany the paths that are already in place along the roads, and benches for members of the community to sit and relax. Uptown United plans to expand this project in the future, and hopes it will bring more vitality and increased property values to Uptown.
We helped fund this project through its placemaking program and through grants provided by the National Association of REALTORS®. Placemaking provides a way for community stakeholders to work together and make a neighborhood a better place to live, work and play, and helps build comprehensive communities.
